Thunder Mountain Raceway

A Legacy of Community and Thrills – Celebrating 35 Years in 2025!

Close to Kelowna, BC, Thunder Mountain Raceway (TMR) has attracted drag racing enthusiasts of all ages for over 50 years. TMR offers a unique 1/8th mile strip and is more than just a raceway; it’s a welcoming space where the love of speed, family, and tradition merge into an unforgettable experience.

A Track with a Heart

At its core, Thunder Mountain Raceway is sustained by a tight-knit group of passionate drag racers whose dedication to the sport is eclipsed only by their commitment to cultivating a friendly, inclusive environment. Unlike traditional racing tracks that cater to professional and semi-pro drivers, TMR prides itself on being a family-oriented venue. It’s not about the fierce competition here; it’s about sharing a love for cars, speed, and entertainment.

Sign up for our weekend races!  Bring the family to camp and enjoy the thrills. We welcome young drivers and teens and provide expert driving training. Our ambiance is unlike any other racetrack – there’s no pressure of pre-registration. Simply arrive on Friday and have your vehicle checked by skilled technicians to ensure everyone’s safety before the racing begins.

Good Food and Community Spaces

Delicious onsite food and drinks are on offer at the TMR’s very own Chuckwagon food truck. This has quickly become a favorite among racers and spectators. Enjoy sizzling burgers, home-style fries, classic hot dogs and refreshing drinks you can take to the stands. At our track, you are also welcome to pack a picnic and enjoy a meal under our large gazebo, surrounded by fellow racing aficionados.

Where Young Racers Shine

Thunder Mountain Raceway serves as a beacon for budding talent with its junior and teen challenge racing. Junior Dragsters, young racers aged 6 to 16, take to the track on Saturdays and Sundays, showcasing that age is but a number in the world of drag racing. The Teen Challenge caters to those aged 13 to 18, providing a platform for adolescents to test their mettle against their peers. We encourage a lifelong passion for racing!

The excitement peaks on Fridays with the option for callouts, allowing individuals to challenge fellow racers in friendly competition. The weekends bring points races across categories like Pro, Super Pro, and Top Competition, stirring up the competitive spirit within our relaxed, fun-filled atmosphere. Some of our upcoming races: Friday Night Instant Greens, Friday Night Street Outlaws, Bracket Racing, and the Teen Challenge.

With racing fees set modestly and trophies awarded to weekend race winners, TMR succeeds in making motor sports accessible to everyone.

Volunteering and Accessibility

Volunteers looking to immerse themselves in the racing community are welcome! We don’t ask for racing credentials – only that you bring your passion for the sport and the community. From burnout box to the tech shack – we love volunteers. All training is provided, and you are reimbursed. Meet great people at be up at the front of the races!  Thank you in advance – it’s our volunteers that make racing successful and safe.

Note – TMR’s facility is conveniently accessible, ensuring no one misses out on the action. We offer a shuttle from our gate for the elderly and disabled to get up to the track, during all open hours. This is because it’s a good walk up an incline to get up to the track!

Today’s Tuesday Drivers Spotlight goes out to Rick Klotz!

Rick Klotz comes from a small town in northern Manitoba called, Lynn Lake. Rick is easy to spot—he’s the only guy rocking a badass ginger mullet with a matching mustache. Just as recognizable as his look is his character: the kind of person who’ll go the extra mile to help anyone in need. He’d give you the shirt off his back… just don’t ask for his shoes. LOL.

Rick grew up around cars. Believe it or not, He started working with his families tow truck/ gas garage at 4 years old. Eating lunch with his Dad, painting people’s tailgates, spray painting Chevy Blue strips around the garage (on stucco). Later on he learned to operate the hoist!

By age 12, he could pretty much run the pumps, cash register, tire balancer, check any and all the fluids and put air in tires-reading a tire gauge properly! If Ice Road Truckers was on TV back in the 70’s- Rick would have been on it. He learn how to drive full size, half ton trucks on the ice roads up northern Manitoba.

Rick has always had the need for speed, whether on bikes, snowmobiles or behind the wheel of a cars! Racing runs deep in his family- his late uncle, Abe Loewen earned a place in Canadian Drag Racers Hall of Fame!

Rick’s favorite place to be is higher than 20 feet in the air. Rick is not afraid of heights. Climbing trees or being high on a roof working is just where he prefers to be other than on the racetrack. Rick owns/operates Two Rivers Roofing Ltd, with his wife Jaxx, in Grand Forks, BC.

Together, Rick and his Pinto “Ruby” are fast, fearless, and unmistakably unique—a team you definitely won’t want to miss when they roll into the lanes.

Rina Bob Gresiuk

Today’s Tuesday Drivers Spotlight goes out to this bad ass competitor, Nick Davie, from Enderby, BC.

Nick has been racing for 4 years. For anyone who knows Nick, he has a contagious laugh and smile but behind the wheel, Nick means business! He’s got a heavy foot and puts the pedal to the metal when needed! So much that he leaves the track almost each weekend being a winner!

Nick has a very supportive girlfriend and family at the track! Sponsor- Fixed by dad! Nick follows in his dad’s (Rob Davie) footsteps when it comes to racing! They both have consistent cars.

Fun fact about Nick - He has a black belt in karate! Next time you see him, ask him to show you some moves!
