I was trying to hold off on putting this news item on the page until the new year, but it seems the peer pressure to get it out to the public is out weighting my decision: SOOOO here it is Quote "I have our Nitro AA/FA all signed up to come up to TMR on the weekend of June 24/25 which should be our opening race."

On Thunder Mountain Raceways first race of the 2005 season : tentatively on June 24/25 05 we have contracted 1 nitro burning  AA/FA Fuel Altered to put on 3 runs on the Sunday. We expect these passes to be close to or faster than TMR's track record, more info as soon as it comes in. But until then here's a couple pics from Gasser Madness website.

Mysterious “G-boy” Spotted at TMR

Hns / kelowna

Yes Folks, it is true, the reclusive mystery man known only as “G-boy” and first identified by Veteran Drag Racer Mike Schewe, recently was photographed at TMR. “G-boy” apparently is the fellow pictured on the left, expostulating his various theories to  a mesmerized group of northwest notables including Leon and Tina ,  and the ever lovely Clara.  The discerning reader may have noticed a certain resemblance between the pictured “G-boy” and Dirty Edna pilot, Shewe, who denies it categorically. When queried about the similarities, Schewe was heard to opine “ G-boy and  Nitro Mike couldn’t be the same person, I would have to have a split personality for that to happen, and I’m not crazy and neither am I”.                                 -continued in the dirty edna forum pages.

Schewe Shocks Spectators, Shows Signs Sight Suffering, Senility Soon?

Hns / kelowna

Veteran Drag Racer, Mike Schewe, recently skewered 4 out of 6 of Thunder Mountains state of the art finish line lights to the chagrin of Director Laura. When questioned about  this most recent faux pas, "lights? he mumbled, I can't even see those little buggers at 150 mph. I liked it better when they used flags."  When this reporter inquired why he never wears the glasses he bought off the rack at London Drugs, Mr. Schewe was heard to opine," UGH, make head hurt." The Wiley dragster pilot was not, however, without remorse, "I slipped her 50 bucks to buy some new bulbs but who's gonna fix my f***ing wing? he moaned. First I go bald, now it's my eyes, I want off this f***ing planet. I shouda listened to my partner, Gary Hough, when  he told me "don't be whomping it when it's crooked", well I guess that finally proves that yes, he is better than me."                                    -continued next season.

OASC Membership Secretary Denise Roynon

Well racers and fans!! with TMRs season finale' in the history books I will get all the latest updates posted as soon as I get them in my possession. BUT !! untill then we got video of TMRs own BIG Neil Lachelt laying down TMRs fastest pass ever on video.

You can download the clip HERE    (right click and save to your HD, play)

The bridesmaid "you all know who we are talking about", in his Summit International Trade Inc. blown alcohol dragster finally after all these years finally took top honors in the Top Comp Class, Way to go Steve.
Also in Super Pro a first timer in the years points race! After three seasons of electronics failures engine after engine and tranny after tranny etc. etc. etc.. Hats off to Gerry Pieters who in his first full season on the mountain in his Thunder-Alley Racing alcohol injected Falcon takes the trophy home.

On another note of milestones in the winners circle, this season top honors go out to Kayle Shaw of Penticton..." I should have listed Kayle at the top of the page" for winning all 5 races in the 2004 season on the mountain launching Kayle into the seasons top position and track champ in the Jr. Dragster division. congrats Kayle, you the man err I mean boy in Jr. Dragsters.

Also Chris Ross of Precision Porting in Summerland BC racing in the Bike Class sponsored by, yes Precision Porting of Summerland locked up the Bike championship for the year at TMR this past weekend. Congrats Chris
Wow 4 of the 6 division trophy winners in the South Okanagan

The Pro class season championship was won by Charles Siddon in very hot and heavily contested points race right from the first race of the year, Congrats Charles glad to see being the new dad has kept those reaction times right on the cutting edge.

Last but not least, this years Sportsman top honors go to Bob Jabs. Congrats to you to Bob on a great season.

On a sad note TMR had no Novice class this season due to the lack of sponsorship interest. I sincerely hope that someone picks up this class for the 2005 season.

For added entertainment Thunder Mountain will be hosting their third and final Friday Night Street Drags of the year on Friday Sept 24th. Todd Evans the Friday Night Street Drag Organizer figures this final race of the season will the biggest yet of 2004, expecting approximately 70 cars in the field. On another note to the Friday Night Street Racers, yes! you are welcome to sign up for the King of the Hill Spectacular too, we have seen many street cars over the years take the King of Hill cash.

I would like to also add that this is the second year in a row that the Thunder Mountain Raceways track ET and Speed record has yet to be challenged and the $1000.00 bounty remains in trust untill the 2005 season, I find it hard to believe with all the super fast cars in BC and Washington State that the bounty still stands at I believe 4.56 sec and 158 mph set by Neil Lachelt two seasons ago.

So in closing I am sending out an open invitation to all past Thunder Mountain Racers to come on up for our last race of the season. Be therrrrrrrrrrrrrre

I just received the 2004 Instant Green Poster from Todd, you can take a look by following this link

We hope to everyone on the hill this weekend for both the Instant Green street car race on Fri night and for our Thunder Mountain Raceway race number 2

July 02 04
Ok all you diehard workhorses that want to get back to the mountain. This weekend we're going to tackle the root problem in a major way. We will need 3 pickups, 3 hefty gas generators and 6 big heavy drills with 1/2" bits. I may have to rent the drills from Winn, but hopefully between all of us, we can come up with the generators. We will be going after the return road also, before it heaves in half.
If the weather cooperates, the grandstands will get painted and all the guard rail advertising needs to be touched up, as everybody renewed their sponsorships.
Soon our property will be so dry that running a chain saw will be too dangerous, so we will start to make a dent in the cut trees either getting them into manageable piles so the underbrush can be exposed, and dragging lots of the trees over to the motocross track in a further attempt to make it unavailable to those who just don't seem to understand the concept of THE TRACK IS CLOSED.
We could use a couple of empty car trailers to haul the brush out and over to the other side. And I'm sure that once I get home I'll remember all the other stuff on the list, but this is a start for now.
If you can lend a hand for 1 or 2 days, please email me and let me know your available and what equipment you might have.
Thanks in advance...this work party is all about preventative maintenance...the most important kind of work we can do.

Knox Mountain Kelowna BC
Come and join us for the 47th Annual Knox Mountain Hill Climb in Kelowna, BC on May 22&23, 2004

Just a quick note for the newsletter to bring you all up to date on things.  Lot’s of new stuff this year to make things more interesting, for sure.  We have sold out the vendor area.  The car show is full.  Entries to date are at 70 with still a week and a half to go.  We will be at our maximum of 90, I am sure.  Subaru Canada and Anthony’s will be putting on a great show with their cars and their 55 foot trailer which apparently is all decked out with virtual reality games and displays.  The Big Rig trucks will be here.  I was told 5 of them.  Hopefully 1 or 2 will do a smoke show or demo run.  These things are supposed to be pretty awesome.  We are also having a sound-off competition that is on the schedule for these guys.  Sorry I cannot tell you more about this because I honestly don’t know too much about it.  Beer Gardens are in.  Hopefully we have beer!  Big tents set up with hospitality for the VIP’s etc.,etc.,etc..

We always need lot’s of help and it looks like that is well attended as well, though we can never have too many.   We will be having a set up day on Friday, May 21st.  So if you happened to be around we should start really flying about noon.  With a little luck we should be all done around 5 so we can have a beer, but only one, of course!!

The big news is with the help of Subaru, Coca Cola, Kal Tire, IDI, and loads of others we will be going into this weekend with all the bills paid up front, basically.  If you have ever organized an event like this you know it is good that you can breathe easier knowing all the spectators are gravy.  With weather being our biggest factor, this has been a big worry over the last few years.  I have to tell you I feel very good about this year and I am glad Duncan talked me out of retirement for this event.  I feel this is going to be BIG.  This doesn’t mean that I am not looking for a replacement, I am.  But I will be around to see this thing through to the big 50th anniversary even if it is a competitor.

So, check it out, people.  I think this is going to be one good event.  I have a good feeling

It has been brought to my attention the at least one of Thunder Mountain Raceways members has found my previous editorial on the new rule change biased and negative. I take this opportunity to apologize to any members that found my  statement biased, when writing it I did not see the emphasis on "following the rules to the T" statement. I will keep my personal comments strictly for the forum in the future.

I should try to inform all members that as of  April 14 04 a unanimous vote in favor of adopting the NHRA rule book as our main and only guideline for all rules and regulations right down to licensing at Thunder Mountain Raceway. It was also amended into the vote that the full change of policies and tech rules will be brought in over the 2004 season. As most racers present and past recall Thunder Mountain used to abide by the NHRA book for the most part with the exception of extending the due date on a few of the rules ie: seatbelts , window nets, dampeners, trans shields as long as the were in perfect shape. This is no more the norm. The rules will now be followed to the T. It was said non of the regulars would be turned away but their tech card will list infractions and by next race day the required updates must be repaired or replaced in order to race. Why you ask? We are not an NHRA sanctioned track. SAFETY there is no substitute for safety and Thunder Mountain Raceway wants to be known as a track that adheres to all the laws and guidelines set out by 50 years of experience in the NHRA. More to come on this subject as info comes in.

A Repost of this past update:
Gerry has requested me to remind everyone about this years fuel order, he wants to get the order in soon.
How do I say? "It's time to think about this seasons fuel" I was just in touch with Gerry Pieters of Thunder Alley Transmissions in Penticton and he has asked me to post a note to let everyone know he will taking care of the VP Fuel order again this season. Anyone wanting fuel for the up coming season should get in touch with Gerry by phone 1-250-492-6269 or hit him with an  email at Thunder-Alley Transmissions . The word out is prices will be the same or close to last years, more to follow as soon as it comes in. Also there are a couple people only interested in  buying a part barrel so don't be afraid to call for any amount.

Major updates and revamping to the Volunteer Information Page, Please take a look at the posted info and requests for the
VOLUNTEER POSITIONS AVAILABLE
With the coming of the 2004 season, we find ourselves with a few positions open, that long time volunteers have retired from. These positions NEED TO BE FILLED, and some will need hands on training from the past personnel. These volunteer descriptions are very in depth, in order to give you a heads up, on what is involved. We encourage new people to get involved with the sport of drag racing and the Thunder Mountain Raceway community. It is fun, with lots of wonderful people to get to know

This page is rather a listing for TMR's member/racers to know what our fellow member/racers place of business's have to offer. To be listed on the page just get your business card to me and a short bio on your business "short bio".

Okanagan Ice Racing – 2004
Yes, it is cold enough for ice racing!  By the time you read this we will have had our first race, that is, if the weather co-operates.  We have lots of ice at Duck Lake (12”) so we have ploughed a really nice track with some options to change the course throughout the series.  A big thanks to Bob Brown for that.  The insurance is in place, which unfortunately, has gone up considerably but we all expected that.  The good news is that we will be able to run at Duck Lake this year so that cuts the costs down, for sure.  We will be having one race at Swan Lake this year with the ProWest Motorsports club from Vernon doing the honors.  This race will tie in with the Vernon Winter Carnival.  So if you want to see some fun racing or want to get involved check out our calendar.

Recent email received from a TMR Member/Racer
I won't go into the long story on how this thought came into my mind, (ya ya I know) but here goes.     I was thinking that/.
1. if I needed some trans work, I would go to Gerry's, or Tim's without question.
2. If I needed to get gas, I would go to Mike's, if in the neighborhood, etc., etc., etc.  The old  networking way of doing things.

Myself, I would always go to someone I knew, or was assoc. to in some way.  Therefore, maybe we should put together a network of racers (members maybe) talents etc..You want polishing of metal, call Kevin, you need a new fridge...call whom ever.  The point  I'm trying to make is that none of us know all about our friends and acquaintances.  A list of racers and their talents may go a long way to increasing their monthly income, and keeping things within the family.

What do ya think?
How should it be done?  Through the web site, through the Road Runner?
I don't know about the rest of the general membership, but if there was a list, I would always check it out first, before having the work done by a ....a....a.....a...a .normal person.
Well I Think...
Myself I think this is a great idea and thanx for the tip. it would be a great way for some our local racers who cannot afford the sponsorship costs to get some web airtime. I will get a page started right away, Perhaps any of our racers interested in this idea with businesses should get me a good quality scan of their business card or get a card to via me snail mail or the "ole networking idea" Perhaps even a bio on their particular business would be better.
Thanx for the idea???? good ideas keep the racers checking back often, "this is all good"

Thought we should put out the preliminary artwork for the new TMR T-Shirts, click the pic to
get to the full blown view. If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions let Terry and or Mike know asap. It has been pretty well decided that LORDCO will be getting one of the sleeve spots and we now are looking for someone to pick up sponsorship of the other lane at the track or an individual race etc, we are open to all  offers at this time but dont delay, we want to get the ball rolling and have the shirts ready long before our first race.

How do I say? "It's time to think about this seasons fuel" I was just in touch with Gerry Pieters of Thunder
Alley Transmissions in Penticton and he has asked me to post a note to let everyone know he will taking care
of the VP Fuel order again this season. Anyone wanting fuel for the up coming season should get in touch
with Gerry by phone 1-250-492-6269 or hit him with an  email at Thunder-Alley Transmissions . The word
out is prices will be the same or close to last years, more to follow as soon as it comes in. Also there are a
couple people only interested in  buying a part barrel so don't be afraid to call for any amount.

We would to send out a special thank you to both  Lordco  and to Summit International Trade Inc. for their continued sponsorship in the up coming year, Lordco has been a long time sponsor  of one of our race lanes at TMR and Summit International Trades Services has been a consistent sponsor for our Super Pro Class

News letter info request. It has been brought up at our last general meeting that some members are asking to have their copy of the Roadrunner delivered via Email rather than snail mail, please get in touch with Terri or myself if you are interested in this idea, Receiving your roadrunner via email would create a substantial saving in the OASC's coffers as much as $15.00 per sub per year.

The Awarding of Points for the 04 season at TMR
  • You must be a paid member in good standing before the event

  • All 5 races this year will count for points. No throw aways!

  • You win a round you receive 1 point, this will apply even if the class round cannot be
     completed

  • There will be no more 5 points for qualifying for a race

  • If a round of eliminations cannot be finished, ie weather or darkness, those racers who did
not run will come back to the line on the Saturday afternoon of the next race event and to be
staged in the exact order to complete the previous event.
  • Whatever class you were registered in, on the day of the rainout or darkness you will stay
in that class to complete the event, you may substitute another car BUT it must run in the
same time brake and have at least one time trial pass on the car before the eliminations
commence. At the completion of that event you may change classes for the following days race
